The Phantom

Anthony Warlow is THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, states the poster outside the theatre.

True.

And when he puts his mind to it, Anthony is capable of inhabiting characters as diverse as the pragmatic and self-reliant Papageno in Mozarts THE MAGIC FLUTE to the high-minded
Cervantes/Don Quixote in MAN OF LA MANCHA

Blessed with a thrilling voice and a wicked gift for mimicry, Anthony is able to dwell in an extraordinary diversity of roles from high opera to musical comedy, and his versatility has enthralled Australian audiences since his 1981 debut with the Australian Opera at the age of 19 in Benjamin Brittens A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM The Joan Sutherland Scholarship enabled him to further his career in opera, with roles in THE MAGIC FLUTE, LA BOHEME, TOSCA, OTELLO, THE TALES OF HOFFMAN (with Dame Joan), ROMEO AND JULIET, LA FANCIULLA and DON GIOVANNI.

Branching out into musical theatre, he performed the role of Sky Masterson in GUYS AND DOLLS and, in the one-man show A SONG TO SING-O, he paid tribute to George Grossmith, originator of the G&S comic patter roles. These were followed by the original Australian production of LES MISERABLES, directed by Trevor Nunn, in which his performance as the student Enjolras was selected for the Grammy Award-winning international cast recording.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA made its Australian debut in 1990.

Making the most coveted role in music theatre his own set the seal on Anthonys status as our premier stage performer. The accolades that ensued included the prestigious Advance Australia Award for Contribution to Music Theatre in 1991. In 1998, the nation and the National Trust elected him a Living National Treasure.

Platinum record albums, international tours, a health crisis with lymphoma, concert dates with British sopranos Sarah Brightman and Lesley Garrett, THE SECRET GARDEN, GREASE THE ARENA SPECTACULAR, as well as sell out performances of THE MAIN EVENTtwith John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John, all contribute to the spectacular success of Anthony Warlow across a wide spectrum of the entertainment industry. Now he is delighted to be bringing Sir Andrew Lloyd Webbers THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA to a new generation of theatregoers as well as to devotees who embraced it so warmly 17 years ago.
